People think that owning a pet bird is easier than taking care of a dog or a cat because it mostly stays inside a cage. However, having a pet bird is not easy as you think because it will take effort, patience, and love to ensure that the pet bird will have a long life. There are some pet birds though that are low maintenance, and you do not need to spend hours or a lot of money when taking care of it. Low maintenance birds include cockatiels, lovebirds, and canaries just to name a few. These pet birds need to be touched all the time and they want to feel your love. Pet birds are very affectionate, and there are some that will show you that they appreciate you by greeting you loudly when they see you.

There are several factors that you should take in consideration when you have a pet bird. The first thing that you should think about when you own a pet bird is to make sure that it will not escape. When your pet bird escapes, there is a big possibility that you will be never to find it again for it can fly away from your home or from your neighborhood only within a matter of minutes. Furthermore, you should be able to get down and dirty when it comes to cleaning the cage of your pet bird. There are many people who own a pet bird and they do not even bother to clean the cage once it gets dirty. You should clean the cage of your bird once or twice every week or as needed to ensure that your pet bird will stay healthy and free from sickness.

Another thing that you should remember when you own a pet bird is that the bigger the bird, the more responsibility and work that it will entail. Big birds such as parrots, macaws, and cockatoos need to be taken care of more than small birds because they have a longer life span, they need a bigger cage or space for them to fly around and more attention from their owners.

In the end, whether you own a pet bird, dog, or cat, it is important for you to know that they need your care, affection, and love. If you think that you can handle all of the things that I have mentioned above, then birds are the best pet for you.
